Happy New Year!

Sorry, I am late in wishing everyone a Fabulous New Year!  I have been sick with the worst virus –  I can’t believe how miserable I am feeling.  I have had it for almost 1 week.  I can’t even say that I am feeling better!   I may have to visit the Doctor on Monday.  rats!  No way to start the New Year.  But I hope yours is fabulous!

Christmas Pails

Tonight we are having an after work get together for the office!  I am looking forward to being with my co-workers and sharing the Christmas pails I made this year.  I used Becca Feeken’s Snowflake Ornament for the topper on the pail.   Her blog,  Amazing Paper Grace is wonderful to visit.  She has tons of tutorials for lots of projects!   Check out her blog here:  http://www.amazingpapergrace.com/     You can find the tutorial for her Fleur de lis ornament that she did on Splitcoast Stampers here:  http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/resources/tutorials/fleurdelisornament/       I only used 1/2 of the ornament for my pail topper.   Gold tinsel fills the pail to help cushion the presents inside.    You can click on each picture for a larger view.  It was a fun project!

2010 Christmas Card

Christmas Standing Pop up Card

I decided on using Penny Black’s stamp for my Christmas card this year.  I don’t think you can tell from the picture that it is also a 3 D card.  I cut out the lamp and all the mice to give them some dimension.   I love this sweet scene!  You can find the directions for the Standing Pop Up card here:http://lovenstamps.com/blog/?s=pop+up+standing+card&x=43&y=10     It says “Merry Christmas” on the back and you are able to sign it at the back of the card on the bottom section.  It really was fun to make!

Moving on

We  buried my Dad today.  It was a cold day but a beautiful one.  The sun kept us warm as a Marine played Taps for my Dad.  Very moving and sad.  Now, we must get used to life without Dad.   That will be very hard for all of us.  I didn’t think I could work in my studio again for some time but today was also our brother- in- law’s (Russ) birthday.   He loves football so I was inspired to make a card with a football theme.  I was clearly inspired by Ellen Kemper’s football guy.  I cased the way she does her punch art eyes.  They have lots of character!   You can find it here:  http://blinkthinkink.blogspot.com/2010/01/hut-hut-hut.html       She has great instructions – I just added pants to my guy by using a heart punch and cutting it to look like pants.  Russ is a New England Patriot’s fan so I had to study what their uniforms look like to try and replicate them.   The inside of the card was from the many Cheerleaders I viewed on Splitcoast Stampers.  I saw many really cute ideas.  Here is a link that has several more cheerleaders –     http://rubberstampingdiva.com/?p=141        I think the order of the day is to keep busy!   Thank you for the kind messages –  I really appreciated them!

Happy Birthday, Russ!

Time of sadness

My father passed away last night.  Please keep us in your prayers.  It is a difficult time but we are focusing on the fact that Dad is now healthy and without pain walking with God.

My Dad

Albert E. Cook

Please forgive me for not blogging lately.  My Dad is now under hospice care after our decision to remove him from dialysis.  My family is coming together to help Dad and to help each other to get thru this difficult time.  Please keep  us in your thoughts and prayers.  A world without my father will be  a different world for me.  It  will have a hole that will never be filled.  I will miss him forever.

Standing Pop up Card

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy  Thanksgiving to all!  My family is getting together today in the garage of my parents home.  We have heaters going and thankfully the sun is shining!  There will be about 13 of us this year!  I am thankful for so many things this year but mostly for the health of my parents.  They are doing well and they really enjoy having us all come together!   My sister, Connie and I made these cute cards this morning for a little decoration for the garage.  You could use them for place cards too!   Spellbinder’s vine die worked really well with Stampin Up’s oval punch for the pumpkin.  You can find great directions for the Standing Pop Up card here-  http://lovenstamps.com/blog/?s=pop+up+standing+card&x=43&y=10    Have a fabulous day!

Cardinal Christmas Card

Christmas Card party!

Our friend, Cindy is having her Christmas Card making party tomorrow!  She has one every year and it is really a fun time!   Cindy invites about 10 people. You design a Christmas  card and then bring enough supplies for everyone to make your card.  You go home with 10 Christmas cards that you made yourself!  We also bring lunch and goodies to enjoy during the day.  You must also wear Christmas socks!  That is a must!
I have seen several Cardinals made using Stampin Up’s bird punch.  You can view great instructions to make the Cardinal here –http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/photo/1819111?&si=bird
I used Tim Holtz’s Distress Inks to give my card a vingage look.   I am using the Funky Fold Card technique that I have grown to love!  You can find Cheryl’s video instructions here-http://sweeetdesignsbycheryl.blogspot.com/2010/08/rrr-challenge6-aloha-funky-fold-video.html
Martha Stewart punch was used to make the foliage the Cardinal is sitting upon.  Lastly, I used Tim Holtz’s Rock Candy to give the banner at the top of the card a cracked glass look!
